“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”
Since you are the combined average of the five people we hang around the most. It becomes critical to ask who do you want to travel with in order to achieve a great success in life?
The simple truth is that it’s difficult to improve when you have no one but yourself to follow. For real growth to occur in your life, it is necessary to find a next-step mentor or coach. If you can have both, it will be very beneficial.
Mentoring is when a person is sharing personal experience with you. Mentors are the subject matter experts.
Coaching is when a person is asking open, explorative questions and exploring deeply. The coaching process surfaces your deep desire and abilities that enable you to achieve the fullest potential.
Here are few tips to consider when choosing a mentor:
A worthy example
Has proven experience
Makes a difference in people’s lives
Here are characteristics of a good coach
Cares about you
Raises awareness and increases your effectiveness
Aligns your strengths for peak performance and gives feedback
Helps you improve in every area of your life and performance

Author's Personal Story (Part 6):
My life experience tells me that change can happen overnight - such as the sudden death of my husband. But personal growth can take a long time. It took many years for me to understand a simple principle: "In order to change my circumstances I need to change myself."
Fortunately, I have great mentors and coaches in my life. They help me realize that growth is a life time journey. The fundamental first step is to get on the path.
In my case transformation began to take place when my mentor and coach helped me understand the person I am, become aware of what I can and can't do, and assisted me to define workable action steps for achievements.
